Why burn Kiln-Dried wood?

Reasons to use Kiln-Dried wood?

Due to the recent law change, you can no longer burn wet/damp wood. We know its tempting to buy wood from someone selling cheap wood from the back of a lorry but if it’s not kiln-dried it will soon be illegal.

All our kiln dried logs have low moisture content of between 15-20%. A high moisture content reduces efficient combustion as the moisture effects heat output. Therefore the more efficient the burn the fewer logs you need.

Unlike seasoned wood which is left to dry out naturally in a barn, our kiln dried wood is dried in our kilns for up to 60 hours to ensure all the moisture is removed. Every batch is tested on removal from the kiln to ensure its moisture content is between 15-20%.

Our kiln-dried hardwood logs are available in cubic meter builders bags or netted. Our netted bags each contain an average of 10 to 12 dry hardwood logs and have a low moisture content of less than 20%.  We also sell netted logs delivered on a recycled pallet – a minimum of 20 netted logs per order for a half load.

Kindling is also available in netted bags.

Why you should only buy Kiln Dried wood

In February 2020 the UK Government announced homes with open fires and wood burning stoves will no longer be able to burn wet wood and coal, under new government rules.

Sales of wet wood and coal – the two most polluting fuels – will be phased out in England from February 2021 to help lower air pollution.
